Day 1

After a few days of Crew Training in Charlotte, a friendship visit at Holiday Trails in Charlottesville, and several hours of car karaoke, the Build America Crew Members arrived in Boston to greet the rest of the team who flew in from all around the country from Macon, GA to San Francisco, CA to Stony Brook, NY and several towns in between, the 20 of us arrived to get our day underway.

After a brief introduction and a round of Name Aerobics, our project manager, Nick Julian, led us into orientation. The team thoroughly discussed our goals and expectations, and ultimately created a shared vision of what we hope to accomplish through our summer of servant leadership for people with disabilities both as a team and as men of Pi Kappa Phi.
After training, the team explored the picturesque Boston Garden and The Common on our way to enjoy a dinner at Bertucci’s and dessert at Mike’s Pastry, both sponsored by Brother Mark Leonardo II from the Theta Psi chapter in Rochester. Our thanks goes out to him for providing us with endless plates of chicken parmesan and pizza. Tired and well-fed, we returned to lodging, ready to start our next day.
