Ability Camp

Ability Camps are national service projects that provide funding and manpower to build and renovate structures for camps and facilities serving the disability community. Members of Pi Kappa Phi Fraternity from various universities construct accessible fishing piers, boardwalks, pavilions, playgrounds and more in an effort to highlight the abilities of people with disabilities. The work done will help enhance the lives of people with disabilities while also building bonds of brotherhood.

Since 1989, The Ability Experience has been dedicated to serving the disability community through these weekends. Camps or facilities interested in hosting an Ability Camp can complete a grant application HERE.

If you have any questions, your chapter is interested in attending an Ability Camp and/or serving as a ‘host chapter’, please contact Diego Ferradas at dferradas@abilityexperience.org.

Ability Camps are open to any member of Pi Kappa Phi, alumni and undergraduates. Registration fee is FREE with lodging, meals and a t-shirt being provided during the event. Registration closes 7 days prior to the start of the Ability Camp.

GENERAL ITINERARY:

Friday: Arrive for check-in and all-team dinner at 5:30PM

Saturday: Breakfast, work on project(s), lunch, work on project(s), dinner

Sunday: Breakfast, finish project(s), lunch, depart

PACKING LIST:

  • Clothes and shoes that you do not mind getting dirty
  • Extra clothes for evening activities with campers
  • Closed-toe shoes (due to the type of work, sandals/slides/flip flops are not allowed)
  • Sleeping bag or sheets and a blanket
  • Pillow
  • Towel
  • Toiletries
  • Water bottle
  • Work gloves (optional)
  • Tools/tool belt (optional)
