The Ability Experience

Mike McBride

Michael McBride

Regional Director of Chapter Services - West

As regional director of chapter services, Mike's focus is on providing guidance and resources for students and chapters to achieve their goals and develop into exceptional servant leaders. His background as a cyclist on Journey of Hope North Route in 2015 and Project Manager for TransAmerica Route in 2016, drive him to encourage others to take advantage of as many life-changing experiences as possible. What he loves about his job is the opportunity to work with people from so many different backgrounds and abilities. He loves seeing people challenge themselves and get out of their comfort zone to grow and learn from others. Mike will begin working remotely at the end of 2017, which will allow him to move out west and provide better service to chapters in his region.

He attended Purdue University in West Lafayette, Indiana (Boiler Up!). He considers Purdue to be a very special place because of all the friendships gained and lessons learned through his education, fraternity and so many other opportunities there. He graduated in 2016, earning a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering as well as a Certificate of Entrepreneurship. In the future, he hopes to attend graduate school internationally.

Mike grew up in Westfield, Indiana, near Indianapolis, and still enjoys spending time at home with friends, family and his dogs whenever he can. However, since studying abroad in Shanghai, China in 2015, his passion for travel has only grown. After college, he and two chapter brothers spent three months living as vagabonds in Central and South America. Exploring cultures, hiking active volcanoes and making friends with incredible people from around the world made it the experience of a lifetime. Before joining staff in August 2017, he also organized an Ability Experience Challenge to ride across 7 European countries with a team of nine Pi Alphas. The 3,400-mile trip took 60 days and raised nearly $20,000, which he calls a dream come true. A fun fact about Mike is that he is a certified scuba diver and his initiation number is Omega 1904.
